Why My Mental Health Issues Make Me A Better Coach
The perspective that I have gained from my own mental health challenges is also beneficial for all clients.
What's it like?
I understood that I couldn’t be honest about my mental health because it would likely cost me my job or at best the respect of my colleagues and clients. No one wants to be pitied. Over the coming years I would be very careful about who knew about my mental health and how I framed it when I disclosed it to those select few.
Fuck Mental Health Stigma
It blows me away to learn about the history of mental health and to realize that today in 2023 we still have so much stigma. While we still have a lot to learn about the human brain and how our minds and emotions and mental health works we have SO MUCH science investigating this area of health and what it tells us so far is that we’re doing it wrong.
We need to stop pretending that mental health issues make people incapable or unfit.
We seem to have this idea, as a society, that people with mental health conditions are incapable of holding certain positions, or unfit to perform certain duties simply because they have any given mental health condition… this is a bunch of bullshit.
